🧸Today, while scanning my Instagram dashboard. I saw posts from @student_nurse_ben and @lostwithlindsey regarding sleep and fitness. I am struggling with both now since COVID 19 started. I noticed that even on my days I’m off I can’t sleep at night. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
My usual sleeping time would be around 3-4am. 🛏It’s hard for me to adjust after working nights even how much I tried to make myself fall asleep. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
With regards to fitness and exercising, 🏊‍♂️I stopped doing regular workouts because It’s really hard for me to work out at home when I get used to working out and dancing in the studio @physiquedancefitness.

I know there’s a lot of ways or means to workout at home but it doesn’t keep me so energetic doing so alone. It’s more fun and challenging when you are doing it with others.

But as much as I could I will try doing it at home due to the COVID19 pandemic. It is safe doing it at home than outside that you have to always follow social distancing.

⚓️SAN FRANCISCO GOLDEN GATE BRIDGE: It’s been a long time since the last time I visited San Francisco. I remember the first time I arrived here in the USA, my husband took me to San Francisco bridge to take pictures and explore the place. I also remember running on the bridge and looking at the beautiful view. I promise this time to take more nicer pictures of the bridge. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🏯PALACE OF FINE ARTS THEATER: The last time I visited the theater it’s only mg iphone 7 which I used as my camera for taking pictures. This time I will use my gropo and DSLR so I won’t miss taking wonderful sceneries and instagrammable buildings. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

🎠CAPITOLA BOARDWALK: I will surely make a second visit. I love to hang around the very peaceful scenery at the beach. It gave me relaxation and a good place for meditation and yoga. I love to be closed to the beach. My favorite restaurant “The Shadowbrook” is located nearby the beach. It serves the best Salmon dinner with its mushroom and oyster appetizers. The ambience is so great! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

There will always be a shift that you will never f

There will always be a shift that you will never forget. When your patient is on hypothermia protocol, with intra aortic balloon pump, multiple drips, bleeding and with overly demanding relatives. That’s a BINGO for a nurse, it’s challenging but you learned something from it. For me, I am a little bit OCD. I follow certain routines when I work at the ICU. I’ll make sure that the following are being done:

1️⃣ My lines are labelled in the pump and close to the patient.
2️⃣ SCDS are on if indicated
3️⃣ My IV’s are dated and labelled
4️⃣ I have an oral care kit available.
5️⃣ My patient’s pulse oximeter, EKG leads are labelled and changed every 24 hours.
6️⃣ I have a new set of aseptic syringe and Distilled water for my NGT
7️⃣ Foley catheter care kit is available at the bedside.
8️⃣ My restraints are updated
9️⃣ My patient’s lines, drains, dressing are dated and labelled
🔟 My patient and my bedside is clean all the time.

✋🏻How’s everyone’s doing? I hope you guys are safe at home and work. As for me, I am doing well. It’s been 3 months since we started admitting patients with COVID 19. It was scary and stressful at first but as time goes by, I learned how to deal with it. Using PPEs repeatedly is unsafe for all of us, but I’m still grateful that atleast I have one. 💊The decision to intubate the patient is sometimes difficult. It requires a lot of clinical experience to recognize signs of impending respiratory failure. Patients who require intubation have at least one of the following five indications:
⠀⠀
1️⃣ Inability to maintain airway patency.
2️⃣ Inability to protect the airway against aspiration.
3️⃣ Failure to ventilate.
4️⃣ Failure to oxygenate.
5️⃣ Anticipation of a deteriorating course that will eventually lead to respiratory failure.
⠀⠀
Rapid Sequence Intubation Needed Equipments:
1️⃣ Laryngoscopes - Macintosh curved and Miller straight.
2️⃣ Endotracheal tube
3️⃣ Stylet
4️⃣ Syringe 10 ml to inflate the Et tube balloon.
5️⃣ Suction catheter ( yankauer)
6️⃣ Carbon dioxide detector.
7️⃣ Oral and nasal airways
8️⃣ Ambubag and mask connected to oxygen source.
9️⃣ Nasal cannula
🔟 Glidoscope ( optional )

Before intubating the pt, make sure to do a time out with the team. Position the pt on a supine position, make sure the doctor will have an easy access to the patient’s airway. As a nurse, I always make sure to have an extra ET tube available. In our unit, we usually insert OGT or NGT post intubation as ordered y the doctor.

After intubation, check for the rise and fall of the chest, any color change to the CO2 detector, auscultate for equal breath sounds, observe patient’s skin color for improvement and confirm placement via chest-X-ray.
